The Spread of Hellenistic Culture

Hellenistic- Relating to Greek history and language.
Alexandria- Place in Egypt founded by Alexander the Great.
Euclid- Euclid of Alexandria, was a Greek mathematician, often referred to as the "Father of Geometry"
Archimedes- Invented the science of mechanics.
Colossus of Rhodes- Large ancient statue if the sun god Helios in Greece. 

 Astronomy- When the greeks studied the stars and space.
Math- When greeks invented math and new ways to solve it.
Physics- When Greeks invented things to solve problems.
Philosophy- New ways greeks thought about things.

 I think Math had the greatest impact because it is still extremely prominent today.

 trade made it so there was a mix of different things and customs in one place.

The astronomers, Eratosthenes and Aristarchus, used his geometry text that we still use today.

They both promoted social togetherness.

The Renaissance

1. They wanted to study classic texts and they popularized the study of classical education 2. They went from eating plain food and wearing rough clothes to expensive clothes and mansions 3. They became patrons for artists to have portraits of themselves painted  4. They made paintings and sculptures of prominent people in society 5. They wrote for self expression or to portray the individuality of their subjects  6. Petrarch wrote poetry in Italian and Latin; Boccaccio wrote a series of realistic stories  1. Humans Try and control nature

Nomads- Highly mobile people who moved from place-to-place in search of food. Hunter-Gatherer- People whos food was determined by hunting animals and gathering food. Neolithic Revolution- The transition from hunting and gathering, to farming. Slash-And-Burn-Farming- Cutting down trees to clear a field and burning them to create fertile soil with the ashes. Domestication- The taming of animals. The Neolithic Revolution was the most significant because, without farming, humans would still be hunting and gathering and not knowing where they would find their next meal. Cro-Magnon tools made Neolithic Survival easier because they didn't have to do everything with their hands all the time. Factors that played into the Origins of Agriculture were Climate change, and whether the community had a rich supply of grain or not. The first crops grown in the Americas were Corn, beans, and squash.
