Democracy and greeks Golden Age

Pericles strengthened Democracy by increasing the number of highly paid public officials.

Pericles used money from the Delian Leauge treasury to make the Athenian navy stronger than all of the other ones.

Love, hate, war, and betrayal were common in Greek tragedy.

The Greek comedies consisted of making fun of politics, and it showed that women were more powerful than men in Athens.

Not a democracy,3 groups: farmers, artisans, Warriors, and the ruling class.

Aristotle questioned the nature of the world, human belief, and scientific reasoning.

Direct Democracy- Where the people vote on decisions directly

Classical Art-A western style of art.

Tragedy- A sad play.

Comedy- A funny play.

Peloponnesian War- A war found between the most powerful city-states at the time, Athens and Sparta.

Socrates- A famous philosopher who created the Socratic method.

Plato- A famous philosopher who taught other people.

Aristotle- "The Father of Western philosophy"

Pericles introduced Direct Democracy which allowed many people to participate. I think this was the most important.

Athens's strategy was to avoid open battle and the spartan strategy was to mass charge at the opposition.

People thought Socrates was so unusual because people had never asked them to question their own personal morals.

Nomads- Highly mobile people who moved from place-to-place in search of food. Hunter-Gatherer- People whos food was determined by hunting animals and gathering food. Neolithic Revolution- The transition from hunting and gathering, to farming. Slash-And-Burn-Farming- Cutting down trees to clear a field and burning them to create fertile soil with the ashes. Domestication- The taming of animals. The Neolithic Revolution was the most significant because, without farming, humans would still be hunting and gathering and not knowing where they would find their next meal. Cro-Magnon tools made Neolithic Survival easier because they didn't have to do everything with their hands all the time. Factors that played into the Origins of Agriculture were Climate change, and whether the community had a rich supply of grain or not. The first crops grown in the Americas were Corn, beans, and squash.
